Description: Mechanism of action Hydroquinone Inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme that converts tyrosine into melanin. Consequently, the structure of the melanosomes is altered, which causes either a decrease in the production or an increase in the degradation of these organelles, or both. In addition, it induces necrotic effects on the melanocyte, through direct intracellular damage

Therapeutic indications Hydroquinone. Skin hyperpigmentation: melasma, chloasma, senile lentigo, freckles. Topical Hydroquinone Dosage, ads. and children > 12 years. 2%: 2 aplic./day (morning and night), until desired effect. 4%: start 1 application/day (night), 10-15 days and continue 2 applications/day (morning and night), recommended duration, 60-90 days. If there is no improvement after 2 months of treatment, discontinue. Max 6 months.

Warnings: Avoid contact with eyes and mucosa. Protecting the treated area from the sun can reactivate melanin production. On sensitive skin, perform a sensitivity test. Apply in small areas, if the area to be treated is very extensive, treat in different cycles. Contraindications Hydroquinone < 12 years, hypersensitivity to hydroquinone, open wounds, mucous membranes, eczematous or irritated skin, sunburn. Also in 4%: chemical hyperpigmentation such as ochronosis and colloid degeneration of professional or cosmetic origin. Interactions Hydroquinone May cause temporary skin coloration with: peroxides (hydrogen peroxide, benzoyl peroxide, etc.).

Pregnancy Hydroquinone Animal studies have not revealed teratogenic effects at doses nontoxic to the mother. However, its use is discouraged, as there is insufficient experience in pregnant women. Lactation Hydroquinone Avoid. The safety of topical use of hydroquinone in lactation has not been established.
